Metallica announce O2 shows

Metallica have announced that they will be playing the 02 World in Berlin and 02 Arena in London on September 12th and 15th 2008. Tickets are £5 and all ticket proceeds will be donated to various charities, which is a pretty cheap concert.. I paid close to $100 when i saw them in Australia.

Metallica have also put a couple of small excerpts from their soon to be released album Death Magnetic, on the official metallica.com website. More goodies will be added to their site over the next 2 weeks.

They will be making the first single ‘The Day That Never Comes’ available on August 22nd, so we should have the Ringtone on that date and a physical release will be out in September.

Their album “Death Magnetic” will be released worldwide on Friday September 12th 2008.

Oasis Album Named

Noel from Oasis admits the title for their upcoming LP “Dig Out Your Soul” was chosen because the group couldn’t think of anything else.

He told Britain’s Radio 1: ‘I couldn’t think of any ideas and then somebody had just taken bits of the lyrics out and ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ was what came up.

“Dig Out Your Soul” is not the best one but it was the best title on a day when we had to choose one. Originally it was going to be called “Bag It Up” and then it was going to be called “Shock of the Lightning” and then it was going to be called “Standing On The Edge Of The Noise”

“Dig Out Your Soul” - which Noel claims is a reference to soul music will be released on October 6.

Today we have the current Top 10 Mobile Ringtone Charts, so you can get an idea of what’s hot and what people are currently downloading. Some of these songs and artists may come as a surprise (i know they did to me when i compiled the data) and not because the songs are bad, but because of how old some of them are and simply how long they have managed to stay in the Top 10 without being toppled. But as you will see, there’s some classic and timeless songs in the list and that’s why they still remain the most popular ringtones today.

#1 Mariah Carey - We Belong Together

First up, we have the sexy Mariah Carey with We Belong Together from her tenth album Emancipation of Mimi. This is Mariah’s biggest selling hit with a massive 243 Weeks without leaving the Top 40 Mobile Charts, the album was released in 2005 and is just as hot today as it was back then. It’s very difficult to get data about the most downloaded song of all time or number of downloads worldwide, but i would say this would have to be one of the most downloaded songs to a mobile device by an artist (Not including CrazyFrog etc) of all time due to the sheer length of time it’s been in the Mobile Charts. Well done Mariah!

#2 James Blunt - You’re Beautiful

Coming in at number 2 is James Blunt with You’re Beautiful which was written for his 2004 album titled Back to Bedlam, then later released as a single on May 30th 2005. After release the song topped the US, Canada and UK Charts as well as coming in at #2 in Australia. It also holds the title of the only song by a British artist to top the Latin America Top #40

#3 Craig David - All The Way

The song All The Way was the first single released by British R&B Artist Craig David from his album titled The Story Goes… David missed the Top 10 with his previous singles “World Filled with Love” and “You Don’t Miss Your Water (’Til the Well Runs Dry)” however All The Way changed that for him. Despite him nailing the Top 10 with it, his song titled Don’t Love You No More (I’m Sorry) is actually his biggest selling single to date.

#4 Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway

Kelly Clarkson with her song titled Breakaway comes in at #4 which was released in July 2004 for the soundtrack to the film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Also many people don’t realize this, but the song was co-written by the stunning Avril Lavigne and was originally intended for Avril’s album called Let Go but Avril felt it didn’t suit the album so it was released by Kelly Clarkson instead. Afterwards the song was included on Clarkson’s second album, Breakaway.

#5 Akon - Lonely

Lonely or sometimes called Mr. Lonely by Akon is from his debut album titled Trouble which was released on March 15th 2005 where it instantly topped the charts around the world in places such as United Kingdom, Germany (stayed there for 8 weeks) and Australia. Also it hit #2 in France, #3 in Brazil, and #4 in the United States. The song makes uses a sped-up sample of Bobby Vinton’s “Mr. Lonely”. The Lonely video actually is very similar to Shakira’s “The One” from the album Laundry Service. So while the song has borrowed heavily from other songs/artists it’s still quite unique and popular coming in at #5 on the Mobile Top 10 Charts.

#6 Gwen Stefani - Cool

Cool by the lovely Gwen Stefani is from her debut solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby which was released in 2004. The Pop-Rock songs lyrics highlight a relationship where two lovers have separated, but remain “cool” with each other as good friends. Many people believe the song represents Gwen Stefani’s relationship with fellow No Doubt member Tony Kanal, who’s relationship ended but the couple remained ‘Cool’ as friends.

#7 Foo Fighters - Best Of You

Best of You by the Foo Fighters is their most successful single and it’s from their fifth Album called In Your Honor. The single reached #18 in the US Hot 100 charts, and it also took out #1 on the U.S. Modern Rock and U.S. Mainstream Rock charts. A live version of the song was also released on the album Five Songs and a Cover, and as a “B” side on No Way Back/Cold Day in the Sun. Currently, it’s the Foo Fighter’s only single to reach Platinum status, other singles such as Everlong, Learn to Fly, Times Like These, DOA, and The Pretender have only reached Gold.

#8 Ludacris - Stand Up

The lesser known “Stand Up” is a 2003 hit for Ludacris featuring Shawnna and is from his fourth album Chicken-n-Beer. It was Ludacris’ first #1 single and was produced by Kanye West. It was released on August 19th 2003 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of December 6th 2003. Ludacris went on to be nominated for a Grammy in Best Rap Solo Performance. So the song on nearly it’s 5th Birthday still remains a hot downloadable Ringtone.

#9 Shakira - La Tortura

The stunning hip swirling Shakira comes in at #9 on the Mobile Ringtone Top 10 Charts with La Tortura. Translated the song title La Turtura means “The Torture” which was released as a single in Cotober 2004 and is a Latin pop-Reggaeton song by Shakira and Alejandro Sanz. When released it became the most famous Spanish language track of both singers worldwide and the fourth most successful song in Shakira’s career. Also according to the statistics from Media Traffic it’s the 46th most successful song since 1999.

#10 Black Eyed Peas - Don’t Phunk With My Heart

The crazy crew Black Eyed Peas coming in at #10 with Don’t Phunk with My Heart which is the first single from the Black Eyed Peas album titled Monkey Business. The song is best known for its slightly controversial usage of the word “phunk” in its title, so the radio edit version replaces “phunk” with “mess”. The song was nominated for 2 Grammy’s in 2006 and took out the Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group. When released the song went on to hit #3 in the US charts and #2 in the Latin Charts, and couldn’t top La Tortura for first place.

We blogged about the band 3OH!3 last month, and a lot of people showed interest in this band from Colorado so we are back again with a post about the 3OH!3 Album titled Want. The album was released on 7th August 2008 and this once small time band are starting to see big time success.

The best songs on this album are Punkbitch, Chokechain, Still Around, I’m Not Your Boyfriend Baby, Holler Til’ You Pass Out, and Don’t Trust Me. These in particular feature great beats and lyrics, so we have also included the Don’t Trust Me video and lyrics along with the I Can’t Do It Alone Lyrics. This way when you listen to the CD or grab the ringtone you will know the words to the song. Also if you were wondering about the odd name for the group, which people spell 3OH3, 3OH 3 and even 3!OH3 along with every other version under the sun it was selected after the area code for Colorada which is 303. How the ! and H got in there i don’t know, so if you do feel free to comment as i haven’t been able to find any info about it.

This one is just a quick off topic post to mention a few things which, to our regulars will be immediately obvious.

Today we launched a new look for the Ringtone Blog, the old one just didn’t cut the mustard any longer. It was dark, gloomy and between you and me downright ugly. The new fresh look increases readability, helps make everything we have to offer more accessable and looks far better.

Also the other day we enabled our Lyrics section which has thousands of song lyrics so when you download Ringtones you can also fetch the words to your favorite songs. We also display some random lyrics and artist links on the blog, and vice-versa the latest blog posts on the lyrics pages to assist navigation.

The lyrics section will also undergo a redesign in the near future as well as the main website pages to tie the whole site together and give it a uniform look and feel. So i hope everyone enjoys the new look, and thanks for your patience during our updates.
